Middle School { Band }
Mr. Choplick
Welcome to the 2018/19 school year. I am looking forward to working with each one of you and will do my best to keep you informed of all activities and requirements for band.
DRESS:
All students are expected to wear BLACK PANTS (no leggings)
BLACK TOPS (ladies no strapless or tanks and MEN- button down or polo)
BLACK SHOES- no flip flops or sneakers and only DARK SOCKS
*Students may wear ties or scarves as well.
EXPECTATIONS:
All students are expected to come to band prepared- tuner, pencil, etc.
Pencils must be on each stand, music must be with you for each rehearsal, and instruments must be tuned and in good working condition.
All band students are expected to attend sectionals and must participate in three required concerts each year, along with the two required parades. Your grade will be affected if you fail to attend. If you miss a concert due to illness or emergency YOU MUST CONTACT MR. CHOPLICK AHEAD OF TIME.
Lessons are required. Lessons will be excused only if a student is absent from school or a teacher needs the student to stay in class (tests or failing a class). Have your teacher contact Mr. Choplick if you cannot attend a lesson. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY!
GRADING:
Grades will be given four times a year.
Any extra credit will be placed in your participation grade. Credit will be given for attending concerts in the community (must have a program or ticket stub) and for participating in extra musical activities that are offered throughout the school year.
Class Participation – 20% - Instrument put away correctly, pencil, evaluations, etc.
Tests (Playing Exams) – 20%
Labs (Band Rehearsals) – 10%
Performances – 30%
Class Work (Lessons) – 20%
In place of an in-person make up lesson, students are permitted to complete a make up lesson on either itslearning or Charms.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
County Band- Students (by selection and approval from Mr. Choplick) will have the opportunity to play alongside other students from Adams County at County Band. More information about this will be available at a later time.
Music in the Parks- The band and orchestra will be attending the Music in the Parks adjudication on May 5, 2019.
